Welcome to Your Valheim Server!

This guide covers everything you need after purchasing your Valheim dedicated server.

Step 1: Check Your Email

After payment, you will receive credentials for your game panel including your server IP and port.

Step 2: Configure Your Server

Go to the Startup tab in your game panel. Key settings:

  • Server Name — Name shown in the server browser
  • World Name — The world file name. If no world with this name exists, a new one is generated
  • Server Password — Required (minimum 5 characters). Must NOT match the world name or players cannot join
  • Public — Set to 1 to appear in the Steam server browser
  • Crossplay — Enable to allow Xbox Game Pass players to join alongside Steam players

Step 3: Start Your Server

  1. Click Start on the Console tab
  2. First startup generates a new world and takes 1–3 minutes
  3. The server is ready when you see "Game server connected" in the console

Ports

Valheim requires two consecutive UDP ports:

  • 2456 (UDP) — Game port (what players connect to)
  • 2457 (UDP) — Status/query port (must also be open)

Both ports are allocated by default. If players cannot connect, verify both are open in the Network tab.

World Seeds

Valheim world seeds are set at world creation and cannot be changed afterward. If you want a specific seed:

  1. Create the world on your local Valheim client with the desired seed
  2. Upload the world files (.fwl and .db) to your server via SFTP
  3. Set the World Name in the Startup tab to match the uploaded world name exactly (case-sensitive)
